Words cannot express how in love I am with Misaki Kawai‘s paintings. Her colors, her playfulness and joy for the creative process is so evident in her work. I’m amazed by the economy of line and yet the intricacy of her expressive paintings. Above are my favorites that I’ve seen so far but I’m a fan so I can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next.
Misaki cites some of her inspirations as “handmade dolls, textiles, and low quality manufactured objects”. This delightful video of her in her studio will give you more info.
Originally from Osaka Japan, Misaki now lives in Brooklyn and shows her work all over the world.
