My Donna Wilson wish list

Donna Wilson wish list

  1. Melamine tray entitled “breakfast in bed”. Perfect for just that.
  2. Rainy day throw in pink. I would love to have this at the foot of my bed to pull over us on a chilly night or for cuddling under while watching a movie.
  3. Lovely screenprinted glasses. Speaking of breakfast in bed, this would look perfect with some orange juice in it.
  4. I’d love to put some stalks of lavendar and chamomile in this one. How pretty would purple and yellow look together through some graphic clouds?!

Another Donna Wilson wish list:

Beautiful items for your home

Over the weekend we went to a birthday party at our friend’s house in Red Hook, Brooklyn. She made her own beautiful cake with pale pink frosting. I told her that she should create a baker’s portfolio to document her beautiful creations before we all devour them. Sunday, we hung with friends along the waterfront in Battery Park. We picnicked on chili, cornbread, orange salad and brownie bites….yum! Hope you had a tasty weekend too.

Vintage Alphabet Posters

vintage alphabet posters

I’d love to frame these vintage alphabet posters in a kid’s room or perhaps even an adult study? Hmmm perhaps even a kitchen:

  1. vintage school alphabet poster “y” and “z”
  2. Bruno Munari first edition alphabet
  3. vintage phonics poster

I hope you have a lovely sunny weekend. We’re going to have a picnic brunch with some pals and also celebrate our friend’s birthday with an afternoon party at her house in Red Hook. Perhaps I’ll drool outside the Erie Basin window on our way over.

Blue Carrot Shop

Blue Carrot Shop

Maquette reader Alexandra just wrote to tell me about her adorable shop full of delightful ephemera including this sandwich bag with cool font “delicious” that I could see scanning and turning into a giant poster for the wall. She also has a great assortment of letterpress letters for displaying on your bookcase or perhaps actually printing with. Maybe you could find your initials and print them on all of your snail mail letters? Also, just look at that cool vintage beach chair. I like it for indoors as much as out!

On the phone illustration & how to dye doilies from Martha Stewart

on the phone

I painted this new piece of a girl on the phone. If you look closely in her shirt I over-laid the negative space of a doily for a pattern effect.

For my mother’s day gift wrap my mom dyed some doilies following a how-to in Martha Stewart magazine (here are some snaps from the shoot on Martha’s blog). They look amazing. So I scanned them and used them in some illustrations.

I found this great step by step how-to dye doilies on Crafty Monday for those of you who didn’t get the magazine but want to dye some doilies.

p.s Also my agency CWC-i blogged about our new partnership

perfect skirts

I hope you all had a lovely mother’s day weekend. I can’t believe we’re in the middle of May! Saturday, my husband made me delicious sourdough French toast and then we took baby Henry to look at the koi in the Japanese pond at the Brooklyn Botanical gardens when it stopped raining. Saturday night we had a low key get together with a couple of close pals. We ordered in Mexican, planned to watch a movie but wound up just chatting instead. My friend Brian even put together a cute rocking chair for Henry while we chatted. What a good “uncle” he is.

Sunday our families came over for fresh fruit salad, scrambled eggs, bagels with walnut and raisin cream cheese, homemade cranberry scones (that my mom made), apricot rugelach (that my mother in law brought from a gourmet market), & coffee to celebrate mom-hood. It was my first mother’s day as a mama. I even got an igreen gift basket, nursery rhymes book to read to Henry and a manicure gift certificate. I can’t believe that next year Henry will make me a scribble and know how to give me a kiss!

…….

The weather is all over the place. One day it’s as hot as summer and today it’s windy and cold. Still I’m hoping for permanent sunny days ahead. Here are some summery skirts I have my eye on. I love how easy it is to dress up or down the right skirt. I need to be able to wear them on a picnic blanket in the park and out for brunch on the same day:

  1. JCrew linen charter skirt
  2. JCrew floral skirt
  3. Rory Beca from Shopbop floral skirt
  4. APC denim skirt from Bird
