Roll gold

I was so honored when AphroChic (Jeanine Hays and Bryan Mason, also authors of Remix) hit me up to create a watercolor wallpaper design featuring Rwandan women in traditional headscarves. The paper, available in shades of blue, yellow, and coral, is dedicated to the women of Rwanda, with 10% of the proceeds from the sale of each roll being donated to benefit Indego Africa’s Leadership Academy, a ground-breaking education initiative offering advanced business training to women in Africa free of charge. The Rwanda collection will be available Winter 2015.

It was featured this weekend in LA at the first African-American designer show house in over a decade, the Helms REMIX Pop-Up Home, combining products from some of LA’s most popular home decor stores with AphroChic’s signature cultural design aesthetic to create a modern space with soulful style.

I have not had that much time to play around with personal projects since baby Viv was born but I have been keeping up with little work projects.

Over the last couple of years/months I have gotten a bunch of hand lettering jobs. I usually use a brush or brush pen and play around with natural lettering or I try to reference a certain font in watercolor.

Any suggestions for sites to check out to see more cool fonts? I pin cool fonts to my pretty/cool board when I come across them. I especially love old fonts on vintage book covers. Here are some amazingly inspiring examples of typography.

1. New York by Andy Gilmore
2. Baubauhaus (Black and white)
3. Oh My Stars (Alphabet book)
