As a commercial artist I get bogged down with projects which is lucky and really great but sometimes puts me in a bit of a loop. Sometimes I need to force myself to be playful and free. I love working abstractly simply because I’m mostly commissioned to do figures and places and words.
Last week I went to the art store and picked up some new paper. I was playing around with it and doing abstract circles and shapes and then realized one of them looked like a head of hair, so naturally I drew a little face below it. Now I’m hooked on this series. I create a different hair-do with colorful strokes and add lips. It’s fast, fun and free. I’m adding some to instagram each day if you’d like to follow along, using #hairapparent.
