My illustration…an ode to Daisy perfume by Marc Jacobs

Daisy and overcoat woman illustrations

My job gave my a $100 gift certificate to Bloomingdale’s because I got married…another great reason to have done so. I promptly went to Bloomingdale’s and splurged on Daisy. It had just come out and they had a promotion going on. I got the perfume with lotion and gold lame cosmetic box (overkill!!) for 70 smackers.

The saleswoman ( a Joan Rivers-esq upper eastsider who seemed to be doing this work for her own pleasure) also insisted that I take the “classy” “gold” bangle they were also handing out. I frankly could have done without all the hullabaloo but I love the perfume. It’s delicious. I hope I never become immune to it. It smells like goodness. I’m not sure how to describe perfume’s (or wine’s for that matter) subtle notes. Nonetheless, Daisy is so lovely.

My old favorite Coco Madmoiselle is off the the wayside for now. This post is very femme. But consider it unisex in that if you are not a girl you may know one who would love to smell like Daisy…and gift giving season is around the corner.

I’m going away for the holiday weekend. I hope all my friends and readers have a beautiful and delicious holiday. I’m thankful for you all! I have lots to post about so look for a new post on Sunday.

Getting a head: Vintage inspired hair accessories and hat

Using your head: Vintage inspired hair accessory/hat post for maquette blog

I really like these vintage inspired headbands and hat from Modishoppe (Candy Thief also on Etsy) & Barneys (Jennifer Ouellette). I think they’re so lovely and evocative of another time. I’m sure I could get a lot of use out of that big flower beret from Barbara Feinman. I posted about some other hats from that millinery a while back.

Plus, take-t(hat)men! I did a hat simulation for women so I thought it fair that I should do one for men featuring Victor Osborne hats on my unsuspecting model.

Disclaimer: My husband is not actually wearing the hats I put on him in the photos. Nor does he know that I’m using him as a model.

I don’t believe in model release forms when dealing with family members.

In other fashion related news Style.com did a funny comparison of Rachel Zoe’s fashion advice with Victoria Beckham’s referring back the the ridiculously named 1959 book by Anne Fogarty, “Wife-Dressing: The Fine Art of Being a Well Dressed Wife. I found the link on Trust Your Style blog.

Lucky Violet’s gift guide: It’s hip to be square so think outside the box

square gifts by violet at lucky

It’s already time to start thinking about picking up holiday gifts. My b.f Violet just posted her Lucky Gift Guide with items all under 50 smackers. Good job V. She chose such great stuff I decided to aggregate some of it for Maquette readers. I happen to have been drawn to a few square items. What a lovely shape. I’m truly in love with the Kate Spade clock. I really really want to get it. I’m such a fan of her stuff.

Perry Street clock, $40, katespade.com

Resin “Thomas House” pillbox, $40, momastore.org

“Candy pyramid” ring, $35, madeherthink.com

A pneumatic knockout Halloween!

Halloween beauties

A swell sensation….a buxom blast….a festive fete….I can’t think of any more ol’fashioned words, axioms, aphorisms, or sayings. So I’ll just say have a splendid Halloween and enjoy an eyeful of these beauteous babes of another time. I always say Maquette is here to provide you with eye candy! Trick or treat!

These fun photos are from one of my favorite Flickr groups Vintage Halloween, mostly from this guy.
