I’ve been having one of the most magical summers in memory (we go back to NYC in a couple of weeks). It’s so easy to pick up and be in a beautiful rustic setting from here in Seattle. Last weekend we hit up Whidbey Island. We explored tidal pools, went to a bonifide country fair and explored a cute village.

I was so excited and surprised to find my book in the most quaint book shop, Moonraker. I highly recommend a visit to Whidbey and especially to Moonraker bookstore. My husband told them it was my book and they (the two sweet ladies who run the shop who happen to be a cross between the best high school English teacher you ever had and your beloved great aunt) asked me to sign it. I could not have been more thrilled to see my book in the most charming independent bookstore.

I’ve always loved black and white vintage photographs. It feels special to see a captured moment from a time long gone. Somehow though, they always have that long ago feeling that can be hard to fully connect with and visualize all the elements of context. I’m so taken with these 20 b/w historic colorized photos, they make these events seem like they could have happened a moment ago in front of my eyes and the people seem like neighbors and friends.

One of my greatest foibles is that I always worry about the future. Even in a moment that’s full of joy, I’m so existentially aware of its fleeting nature. One of my life goals is to be able to be in the present, to actually enjoy a moment in its entirety.

Since we’re spending the summer in Seattle, there’s natural beauty everywhere. Here’s my photo of a glistening lake with hand-lettering of this good rule of thumb. I hope it will serve as a reminder to myself and anyone else trying to “seize the moment”.

I know my posts this summer have included multiple meditations on how beautiful the climate and nature is here in Seattle. I feel so lucky that we’ve been able to experience this place. We’ve been so focused on our work in New York and honestly sort of slogging through life. It’s been nice to be here and remember how tiny we are in the universe. You just can’t help but breathe more deeply and let your eyes and mind wander. I’ve still been working hard but somehow living more richly due to the place I’m in.
