Hope you all had a lovely mother’s day. I spent the day with my son and husband who showered me with affection and attention. What more could a mom ask for? Actually, it’s me who feels totally grateful. While mother’s day is a time to theoretically be celebrated, I believe it’s me who should be celebrating the decision to bring our son into the world, to commit to bringing him tons of joy, laughter, love and support through all of life’s inevitable ups and downs.

I love this Slate article by John Dickerson who suggests writing notes to your child and giving them to him or her at a later date to be determined. Our little posts on facebook here and there are ephemeral. We keep notes on what Henry says and does if it amuses, delights or amazes us but I think I want to do something that’s especially for him. Something that will show him how loved he has always been. So the letters will start now and I’m not certain when I’ll give them to him but it makes me happy to think about doing this special thing for him.

Happy Mother’s Day

Since becoming a mother I love celebrating with my son on Mother’s Day. It’s truly a mutual admiration fest. He’s the most wonderful, joyful human I know and every single day he’s been on this Earth with me has been a better day than any day before he was here. I hope he will always feel deeply loved and understood by me. I know our relationship will shift and change as he grows and that he won’t always plant smooches on my lips and caress my face saying “I love you mama” but I know our love will always be strong and I’ll never stop working to make him feel like he’s the apple of my eye. I do hope the smooches last a bit longer though, they’re the best.

Happy Mother’s Day to all you mamas out there! Enjoy the weekend and celebrate.

I’m so excited for my friend, talented photographer Tara Donne. She’s teaming up with food stylist Liza Jernow to create an incredibly beautiful print magazine called Wild Apple.

In Wild Apple, we train our eye to gorgeous, indulgent and useful food. Our recipes unfold through the seasons, with a focus on what’s available and natural. Our magazine will share love letters to friendly grains, simple snack ideas, well-tested recipes for classics, and menus with which to entertain friends or easily createweeknight meals. It will also cover inspiring international travel, city guides, profiles on interesting creative people, and roundups of beauty products–all of course gluten-free.

Check out their Kickstarter campaign. You can pledge as little or much as you want. With a pledge of $75, you’ll get the first two issues and an e-recipe card for Gluten free pancakes with raspberry sauce and lemon zest. With $200 or more you’ll get a ton of goodies including my illustrated dessert postcards.  I was happy to contribute illustrations for such a gorgeous and useful publication!

My agent Miyuki from CWC-i in Tokyo just stopped into the Graniph store to check out my t-shirt designs. The sales girl was donning one and the team over there said the nail polish tee is especially popular with their customers. How great! You can pick them up online to refresh your spring wardrobe if you like.
