Beastieland

beastie land comic

The comic adventures of adorably ugly creatures, together with your very own stuffed-animal version of the beasts themselves. A perfect hand-made gift.

My dear old art college studio-mate put together this great site where you can buy your very own original Beasties. Jan creates and conceived of  them in college and now, Beastieland is alive and thriving. You have to check out these fabulous stuffed creatures and the comics that go with them. Brilliant!

My drawing of a future girl and the patterns she dons

future girl color

I think fashion is cyclical. In my version of the future, the 80’s is referenced. Above is my future girl drawing with two patterns for her clothing below. Pattern 1 is called “sad bad” and two is called “lighting strikes” (it’s sort of an homage to the Flash). This meets my required drawing for Drawmo! day 12.  Here’s day 13. Have a great one!

Video-game art, Orsinal games, and art evocative cocktails

Orsinal games images

Much to the chagrin of my video-game loving husband I don’t really get into them. I used to be obsessed with Tetris and when I was a kid loved playing winter Olympics on my Apple 2gs ( I even played Super Mario 1 in college since I never had it growing up. I was too scared of the fireballs on the chains so I could never get passed a low level). I’m not into World of Warcraft (which I pretend to think is called “Army of Darkness” to get my husband’s goat), or Ps2 for that matter.

Recently at a party our cocktail loving friends, Mike and Hannah concocted a delectable drink that they coined “Golden Fawn”(2 oz light rum
2 oz fresh squeezed lime juice
1 oz ginger syrup (Mike recommends Great Uncle Cornelius’, if you can find it)
1 oz homemade Falernum

I told them their drink title evoked the image of a soft fawn in a sunny field. Actually I pictured Lily Piri’s work (especially this illo).

Mike told me about Orsinal games saying they would also fit my initial vision of their cocktail. The games are sweet, pretty and cute. Check them out for aesthetic reasons or to play.

Also, I recieved this book Video Game Art as a gift once. It’s a good one if you are interested in the art that makes your favorite game look they way it does, or if you are just interested in this modern pioneering art form.

Laurent La Gamba: Camouflage art photography

Camouflage art: Laurent La Gamba by way of It's Nice That

I’m in love with these brilliant photographs by Laurent La Gamba. They’re so clever and must have taken a painstaking amount of work to create. When I first saw them on It’s Nice That I furrowed my brow and had to look more closely, I thought it was some sort of lens trick or special effect. He must have had to pose the subject (sometimes himself) near the object and take many shots prior to painting the clothing so that the angle and pose as well as lighting and colors were all matched perfectly for the final set up. Fantastic concept and execution. I can always count on It’s Nice That for intriguing art and design.

Also my shoe illustrations are being featured here this week.
