Art loves fashion: Sylvia Sanchez’s collection Warmi

Sylvia Sanchez collection: Warmi

I’m still planning on a good and long post for Monday with news and updates on my California trip, recent work, and just good stuff. Today I’m still catching up on freelance stuff before teaching resumes in Sept. eeeek…so soon.

I could not help but think about the crisp air of autumn when I read this Makool loves you post on Sylvia Sanchez‘s beautiful clothing/ objects. It reminded me of a drawing I did a little while ago. I had to juxtapose them for you in this post.

Here’s what Sylvia is doing:

“Striving for a subtle balance between authentic and contemporary, with an obsession for noble materials and fascinated with handcraft techniques, Sylvia Sanchez, Franco-Colombian & chief designer of WARMI, conceive this articles as objects rather than as clothes”.

Maditi’s photography

Maditi
I love German photographer Maditi’s work. I first saw it in Lines & Shapes (Vol. 2).

Her blog is set up so you can do an aggregate search all of “her photos” posts, so I did it for you.

Here’s her beautiful website + Flickr stream as well.

Have a colorful and calm day. I’m back from California. I’ll post about the trip soon. Just need to catch up on work. I can’t believe how wonderful my guest posters were. If you have not checked in for the last few days you should scroll back and read the fabulous posts.

Albertus Sebus: Cabinet of Natural Curiosities (Yasmine is back for another fabulous post)

Albertus Seba

One of the books that I find completely fascinating is
Albertus Seba‘s Cabinet of Natural Curiosities. It’s a
large, heavy book filled with some of the most awesome
documentations of our natural environment.

Albertus Sebus

Albertus Seba (1665-1736) was a pharmacist based in
Amsterdam who had an immense passion for collecting
plant and animal specimens, and had cataloged them in
four volumes detailing his inventory.

Topshelf Comix by Yasmine

Yasmine again here….are her posts incredible or what! She’s blown my mind.

Topshelf Comix from Yasmine Surovec

Okay. So I collect a LOT of things. Really.

Aside from children’s books, a own a LOT of comic
books and graphic novels. I have everything from
standard superhero comics, to indies. And one of most
awesome comic book and graphic novel publishers out
there is Topshelf Comix. The put out some of the
coolest books out there nowadays, and is home to some
of my favorite artists such as Actus, Craig Thompson
and Renee French.

You can see a preview of the comic books above in the
Topshelf website!

Ban.do: stunning hair accessories made from vintage materials by Jen Gotch

Ban.do

Ban.do

I really wanted these exact one of a kind hair flowers for my wedding but could not get it together to find one in time.

Oh well. I had natural flowers which were nice. I do love love love these vintage ones by Jen Gotch and her pal.

Here are some of my other favorite hair accessories/hat posts:

  1. Vintage inspired hair accessories
  2. Knit wit
  3. Jennifer Behr

It seems Ban.do is making the blog rounds. I could not resist lining it up though for while I’m in Cali. They’re such perfect San Fran flower child accessories.

I’m probably swirling around in golden gate park as you read this, in a floral maxi dress and one of these flowers…
