Can you guess who this is? + Skinny LaMinx’s newest tea towels!!

Can you guess who this is

I’ll give you a hint as to who this is (the answer is at the bottom of the post), she would love Heather Moore’s (of Skinny LaMinx) newest tea towels:

Aren’t they incredible. Heather wrote to tell me about them and I could not resist posting. The design is called LAVA. It’s based on Heather’s cutout of mid-century West German ceramic pots and jugs and is available in Hot lava and in Petrol blue here:

Here‘s where I’ve gushed about Heather before.

Ok did you guess who that bathing beauty is?….Drum roll…..Martha Stewart. I found her on Fabulon.

Li wei photography

Li Wei is a conceptual photographer from China. I found his work on Fubiz. You should check it out here on his site.

“His work is a mixture of performance art and photography that creates illusions of a sometimes dangerous reality. Creating hair-raising performances to convey his continual sense of lost gravity, Wei has taken his work all over the world from Italy, Spain, Korea and the USA.

“My work and artistic experience are characterised by a unique specificity and particularity,” says the 37-year-old artist from Beijing.

“My artistic language is universal and deals with themes about contemporary politics and society using symbols understood by everyone in every part of the world.

“I am fascinated by the unstable and dangerous sides of art and I hope my works reflect these aspects.” (quote via daily mail uk).

Maquette is undergoing some aesthetic changes. So sorry if it’s not up to snuff right now. It’ll be spiffy by the end of the week!

Air mail etiquettes, free postage stamp fonts, + DIY craft a vintage fifties letter tutorial

etiquette1

I love the look of these airmail etiquettes. An etiquette (for short) is an adhesive label used to indicate that a letter is to be sent by airmail. I found them on a fantastic blog Hi + Low. She even put a link so you can bid on one of the collections above on ebay. They’re really affordable. I might try to get one. I think they’d look really nice in a white frame with white matte. I’ll post if I win the auction. There are actually a lot on ebay so there will be enough for all of us if you want one too. Do you remember Griffin and Sabine‘s correspondence?

On a diy note, how about this free postage stamp font?

I found it on how about orange. Now you can make your own old fashioned looking letters.

Here’s a step by step how to make an envelope look vintage: “Craft a vintage fifties letter” via psdtuts.com.

If any of you actually do this please show me so I can post it.

I met some really incredible bloggers this weekend at a meet-up so look for some posts about their fantastic blogs and work later this week. Have a good one. Enjoy!

I’m in love with the shapes and colors in store for next spring. These images give me so many ideas for prints and drawings and paintings. They are truly glorious. I love how floaty and delicate Nanette Lepore’s dresses are…oh…and with those delicious pops of red!

How about Thakoon? Love his unique silhouettes and that ladybug print!

When I look at that Rodarte show I find it totally amazing that those sisters managed to turn bad-ass rock’n’roll into something so feminine and dreamy. Just fantastic. I’m so inspired.

Have you seen the NY Times designers at work series? My favorite is Zac Posen’s. He’s such a lunatic in that tribal/big lebowski/eccentric design genius outfit he’s wearing (here’s where I’ve gushed about his work before). Check out the Times video. I also liked watching Thakoon.

VOTE! Illustrator Matt Dorfman’s amazing poster for the AIGA

Matt Dorfman's Vote poster for AIGA

November seems like light years away. However, it’s swiftly encroaching on the last smidgen of summer. It’s time to think about voting. Don’t forget to register if you just moved! We just remembered…fheww.

I’m totally enamoured with Matt Dorfman‘s incredible Vote poster for the AIGA. His brilliant concept was to surround the word vote with people’s excuses for not voting. Here’s his other incredible work.

Here’s why Matt made this poster:

“AIGA invites designers from across the United States to create nonpartisan posters—and YouTube submissions—that inspire the American public to participate in the electoral process and vote for a presidential candidate in the 2008 general election.”

I’ve been a huge fan of Matt’s work since he was an illustration major a couple of years ahead of me in college.

Here are the other posters that were selected to be printed and distributed.

On the same note, check out these fun “what kind of Obama supporter are you” buttons I saw on Cup of Joe.
