Have a great weekend

What a hectic week it’s been. If you are an avid Maquette reader you know we’re in Seattle for the summer (’cause of my husband’s job). It’s been breathtakingly beautiful weather and we we’re enjoying nature so much. At the same time I still have lots of work to do.

This week has been a juggling act. I’ve been doing projects for Vogue Nippon (writing in lipstick. Cool but messy for the scanner), working on a party kit for Galison, a presentation with Brand New School and a promotion for Lancome. Somehow I never seem to have like 1 or 2 projects at a time. It’s always 3-4 and then I get a little respit and then get blasted again. I love it so much though. I just have to figure out a good balance.

Being on west coast time has been a bit tricky so I’ve been getting up really early so I can blast out some work before my son wakes (see the link below verifying that morning people are more productive!). I’m relishing this change in scenery (New York is a hell-scape from what I hear from friends and family).

Here are a few fun links for you to read/watch:

  1. This girl taught herself to dance (amazingly) in a year
  2. Calm the F%@k down parenting style (I’m on board)
  3. Morning people are more productive (yes!)
  4. This weekend we’re going to a laser light show (no we’re not 16 years old). Many useful inventions use lasers. Nasa shows us some and explains lasers.

The Itty Bitty Project

My friends Agnieszka and Annie of Kiss Me I’m Polish (who I worked with for Daily Candy) are obviously amazing designers. So when they launched the Itty Bitty Project, I was super excited to see what it was all about.

“The Itty Bitty Project began as a crafting experiment – a one-of-a-kind gift for a very special 4th birthday. A kiddie t-shirt, a pretty red button, and a handful of colorful felt shapes cut just right, and VOILA! – the birthday girl could button and re-button the pieces onto her t-shirt in whatever way she wanted. What could be better than that?!”

Henry had a ball making his monster t-shirt and egg sandwich t-shirt. Here are some cute snaps I took him him in his egg tee.

They’re hoping to add new designs motifs and expand the line. Check them out on kickstarter and contribute if you think the project is as adorable as I do.

New York kind of sucks

Gosh I feel kind of guilty for saying so, like I just insulted a friend. Truth is, I love New York but also hate it. I’m far from the first person to admit this paradox. Being here in Seattle for the summer is really refreshing. I keep hearing from friends how hot and taxing NYC feels right now. Still, I can’t imagine not living and working there. Do we have Stockholm syndrome for our city?

Here are a couple of great articles that basically sum up the hate feeling I have for New York:

and this absolutely hysterical one from The Onion:

Fresh ingredients

Spending the summer in the pacific northwest is pretty spectacular. I still can’t get over the fresh flowers and berries growing everywhere and on display at the farmer’s markets. You’d think from my instagram feed that I’d never laid eyes on a strawberry before. In a sense perhaps I haven’t. As cool as NYC is and as well know as it is for it’s culinary experiences, you just can’t get super duper fresh fruits it seems (besides apples in the fall). So I’ll relish this wealth of freshness while I’m here.

I love the styling of these images.
