Marc Jacobs is my favorite designer. I love his sense of whimsy, his amazing prints, fabric choices and the little details that always make his clothing special. I’m smitten with his 2014 Resort collection and especially the styling of the shoot. It makes me want to live in a huge sparse loft so I could have a big pile of striped pillows thrown into the center of the room to lounge about on…obviously in gorgeous Marc apparel.

We had a marvelous weekend in Portland. It was actually a bit of a whirlwind though, we may have to go back and see more later this summer. Henry and I took a pretty train ride there to meet up with Dave. Got in on Saturday afternoon. Saturday night I had dinner with some inspiring locals Chelsea Fuss, Amy Ruppel and Kate Bingaman-Burt. Check out my Friday post for links to their work/blogs. Came back yesterday evening.

Today Henry started a little summer camp. The play yard has chickens and a rabbit and lovely little garden. I can’t wait to pick him up and hear about his little morning activities. It’s been nice though catching up on work and getting into the swing of working in my little make-shift studio here, with the deck door open and fresh cool air breezing in.

Doesn’t Jane Birkin epitomize summer? She’s so effortlessly chic and cool with a flower tucked behind her ear and the sunlight in her wispy hair:

Week 1 in Seattle has been really beautiful. We settled in quickly;  poking around the city, enjoying nature, and relishing the change in pace from the bustle in NYC.

This weekend we’re headed to Portland. Dave has a work thing there and Henry and I decided to tag along. Instead of driving we’re going to take the train. Isn’t there something so romantic and old fashioned about a train ride? I’m imagining pointing out the gorgeous landscape to Henry as we chuff along.

Saturday night I’m excited to meet some fellow bloggers and artists who call Portland home (dinner at Tasty N Sons). If you are not familiar with their work/blogs check them out this weekend:

Hatch Collection July 4th illustration

I love illustrating for Hatch Collection. Here’s a 4th of July piece they used to announce free shipping on the 4th and to wish fans and subscribers a happy holiday.

Hope you have a lovely holiday with family and friends. We’re going to our friend’s place here in Seattle for a little get together. They have an amazing upper deck with a view of the city and space needle. I can’t get over this beautiful place!

We arrived in Seattle late afternoon Sunday, checked into our cozy Airbnb apartment. Yesterday we did a ridiculous amount of activities considering we’ll be here all summer. The day started on our deck, eating some yogurt and granola for breakfast and marvelling at the quiet of our neighborhood, Madison Valley versus 3rd Ave back home in NYC. Henry pointed out all the spider webs and butterflies in the little garden.

Dave headed to work and Henry and I hopped a bus to Pike Place Market. It’s definitely a must see for any Seattle tourist and we didn’t feel too cliché going there first (ok well maybe a little). They have the most stunning flower arrangements, a fish market, sweets and honestly the most beautiful and delicious fruits I’ve ever seen anywhere including on my many trips to California. Henry and I shared possibly the most juicy and sweet peach rivalling James’s giant one in Roald Dahl’s story.

Then we hit up the Seattle Aquarium which is just down the hill from the market. Before heading in, we watched the jellyfish swimming in the bay and the ferry boats taking people to the islands. Inside the aquarium we saw a huge and a little creepy octapus and lots of other fascinating creatures.

The day ended with the most incredible swim in the Madison Valley lake. Swimming in a cool lake with a view of pine-covered islands and snow-capped mountains, including mount Rainier was pretty spectacular. Henry didn’t even ask why the Brooklyn-esq hipster girls didn’t have bathing suit tops on.

If you’d like to follow along my daily photos, follow me on Instagram. I’ll probably share some photos here too from time to time but with a more curated approach. Seattle is truly a beautiful place to be, especially during the summer.
