Tauba Auerbach: Letters and language as art.

Tauba Auerbach

I love this work.

“Tauba Auerbach’s work deals with the shortcomings and possibilities of language. Her work approaches language as a technology, a system of symbols by which the internal complexities of a person’s mind, body and general self are converted into an external, transmittable form. Implied in her work is the notion that this conversion process is inexact. Her focus on language is a focus on the space between individuals, the gap they attempt to cross to meet one another intellectually and emotionally, and the nature of the tools they use to do so. Her analysis includes a substantive examination of words, and a deep formal meditation on individual letters. “I feel as though I know each letter intimately—its shortcomings and its tendencies. I feel close to them.” Overall, her work attempts to present a more complicated and flexible version of reality than language customarily allows.” link via New Image Art.

* I really want this book.

* I have some posts prepped for a busy Friday and Monday. We are living out of boxes trying to get the final details of our life in this apt. in order in time for the move to Brooklyn on Friday. I can’t wait to start posting about the new place!!

Zac Posen, you’re a genius. Plus, My Lucky friend’s street style.

Zac Posen, you're a God and genius.

I have not been following Fashion Week too closely due to the move and other projects but I happened across A Cup Of Joe‘s post about Zac Posen (pre-fall 2008) and fell madly in love. These silhouettes, colors and fabrics are so stunning and rich. I’m blown away (I even created a color palette on Copaso of my favorite colors of his designs).

I’m dying to do some drawings with his designs in mind. Honestly, to me this is where fashion is high art. To create a work of art that will enhance the female form like this is so incredible. His work makes people look luminous and light. I’m amazed. I don’t think I’ll ever get to wear one of his designs but I am so happy to admire them.

My girlfriend works for Lucky Magazine and has been caught by the Sartorialist, the Sunday Times, and now Elle Street Chic. This is her, number 13. The short hemline, black tights and high heels are so evocative of Posen. What a great look! Does not hurt to have great legs. I love heels theoretically but prefer short to tottery high. (I wear a painty smock all day at work…not sexy or Posen-esq).

* News: Look CasaSugar linked to me via Decor8…yippeeee!!! Stupendous blogs.

Happy Mardi Gras! Here’s a photo of me and Dave from last weekend at my friend Erin‘s b’day party.

And now for the post: I’m totally blown away by the job Ez did on Creature Comforts creating an amazing alphabetical web gallery of style and design blogs (a visual database for the aesthetically hungry). Seriously, creating layouts that evoke a visual sense of their source is a huge undertaking. I’ve been enjoying perusing her gallery and finding new blogs based on alluring images. I can’t say I’ll do it on Maquette. The thought of it stresses me out and makes my eyes water. So Ez you rock! I’m so honored that Maquette is on there.

In the midst of packing for the big move Friday, I totally forgot I ordered these Marc Jacobs Mouse flats from Ebay (new and on sale!). When they arrived I was so thrilled. I think they’re the cutest things in the world. I even have a little song and dance I do in them…that I only do in front of my husband and dog for good reason. I call them my meesers (it’s my nick name for mice).

Nimli, a lovely home site: Amenity pillows, Mad Imports bag, In The Raw candle, & Dirt candle.

Happy Monday everyone!

I’m moving this Friday and am kind of freaking out with excitement. I love our new neighborhood in Brooklyn (Prospect Heights Aka P.H. My husband’s name is Dave, we’ve decided to call him P.H.D and open a yoga studio called P.H Balance….joking). It’s right near the park. That means picnics, bike rides, jogging, long walks with the pooch and more. Our new place is so lovely with lots of character. It’s a second floor in a brownstone with original molding, two mantles and nice wood floors.

I have so many DIY (or DIM: Do it myself) projects in mind that I’ll post about with pictures of the progress. My recent internet hunts have been for home stuff. In actuality we are not going to get everything I want to get, that would break the bank and we like eating. We’re going to have to get essentials and gradually get more things over time. We want the place to be uncluttered anyhow. I came across this lovely site though called Nimli. They have a home selection plus jewelry, makeup, clothing and more. I ordered the Amenity pillows that I’ve been coveting forever (the copper ones). I think the basket bag would be a great magazine holder and the candles would be great for the mantle. I want it all (my husband just wants his desk)!! Ok, gotta calm down now and go pack about 1,000,000,000 books into big boxes.
