Naughty Toile for Spoonflower fabric of the week contest

naughty toile for spoonflower fabric of the week

I have never entered the Spoonflower fabric of the week contest but when I saw that the theme was toile I jumped at the opportunity. Here’s my naughty toile revamped especially for the contest. Vote for it here if you wish (it’s the sorbet orange on the peach background). If it wins they make it into fabric that becomes available for purchase!

Thanks!

Anna Aden: Winter Photography

Anna Aden
I really really love the mood in Anna Aden‘s photography. She captures a lonliness in her subjects and yet a seemingly simbiotic relationship with nature. I love her work.

These photos are from the longing section of her site.

Here’s a post I did on Anna’s work that I felt exemplified summer.

Looking for a midcentury rocker

midcentury-chairs-2

I am obsessed with the idea of getting a nice rocking chair with a small footprint to replace the Ikea one we bought for me to feed the baby in. We were in a rush and just wanted one but it’s too big for our space so we’re going to try to sell it locally so I can buy a new one. I’d love to find a real vintage one but Urban Outfitters has a good one that has cushions begging to be reupholstered. Here’s a print of mine. I guess it’s an homage to midcentury chairs.

Spicy Hot Chocolate

Meret Oppenheim. Object
My husband loves hot chocolate so much. He’s been drinking it all winter. I love it too but I prefer spicy hot chocolate. I order it at restaurants like The Chocolate Room. So I thought I’d look up how to make it at home easily. Here’s how. Or try a recipe for Mexican hot chocolate. Basically, cinnamon, nutmeg, and cardamom  are the ingredients to add. Then of course whipped cream. I might sprinkle some nutmeg and cinnamon on top of the cream next time I make us some.

Has anyone tried putting a little chilli powder in theirs? Any other ingredient ideas?

New Pattern: Cable Knit Tromp l’oil

cable knit_tromploil: hand drawn print

Soon after Henry was born we decided to pick up a rocking chair at Ikea. So I can sit next to his crib in our bedroom and feed him in the middle of the night. I love Ikea but don’t like to leave the items I buy from there plain so I decided to create a print to turn into upholstery. It was fun to hand draw a cable knit. From a distance perhaps the cushions with the print on them will look really cozy and soft but up close they won’t be itchy like a sweater.

We have been looking to move into a new apartment thinking that we could get lots more space for a little extra money in the neighborhood we currently live in. Unfortunately we could not find any place we love so we decided to extend our lease here in our cozy little nest and re-work some of our space so that we’re happier and less cramped. Living on a lovely tree lined street in a sunny apartment near the subway for me to get to work on time is really nothing to scoff at. So we’ll stay put for now and have fun playing around with our space and making sure Henry has room to play when he’s up for it.

Hope you had a lovely weekend!!
