Summer wish list to wear

Summer wish list

I can never seem to find the perfect dress for every day/ occasion…until now. I love this flirty fluttery sleeved one. It’s great for summer days and nights! I might pick it up this week in the Madewell shop (they’ve recently added online shopping if you don’t live near a brick and mortar store). I also love Madewell’s light cardi and sweet bag. I think Shopbop’s “love-you” nameplate and braided belt would be so fun for summer looks too. In fact, I’d wear the belt, bag and necklace with the dress!

  1. Floaty floral dress from Madewell
  2. Jennifer Meyer, love you necklace from Shopbop
  3. Eugenia Kim, Bronwyn belt from Shopbop
  4. lightweight cardigan from Madewell
  5. Canyon messenger bag from Madewell

DIY: Mark Frauenfelder’s way (+gifts for dads)

father's day gift round-up (mark frauenfelder)

Made by Hand

Make Frauenfelder (editor of Make and founder of Boing Boing) is guest curator over at Etsy, plus he has a great new book about DIY out now called Made By Hand: Searching for Meaning in a Throwaway World. He recently spent a year trying a variety of offbeat projects such as keeping chickens and bees, tricking out his espresso machine, whittling wooden spoons, making guitars out of cigar boxes, and doing citizen science with his daughters in the garage. His whole family found that working with their hands and minds helped them feel more engaged with the world around them.

I have to add that my husband edited Mark’s book. He’s been asking me if we can keep bees and chickens. He thinks I’m mean for telling him no. Our little Brooklyn apartment could not contain them! Nonetheless, it’s a fascinating book on the ever-growing DIY movement. And I’m totally on board if he wants to make us espresso.

Here are my favorite picks for dad’s day from Mark’s Etsy round-up:

  1. Aged leather sheath for the ipad
  2. Wooden ipod doc with speakers
  3. Espresso tamper
  4. Gentleman’s custom pocket knife
  5. Pick up a copy of Mark’s book for your dad, husband or self here.

Matt Shilian: Drawing

Matt Shilian‘s drawings amaze me. Can you believe this detail work? He’s a paper engineer so if these drawings give you any inclination of his skill, his sculptures will further blow your mind!

Erin Gleeson: Food photography

One of my dearest friends is the most incredible food photographer. She just updated her site with amazing new images. I’m such a fan of her work!

I’m so lucky that she’s been documenting my life from my wedding to Henry at 2 weeks and then 6 months. She’s amazing. Her photos turn food into art. We used to live in the same building and do photo shoots together for fun. We’d play dress up and snap shots of each other. Here’s one she took of me that I love. Here’s one I took of her and my pooch.

Check out her site.
