March 2008

I’d like to dress like Sophocles’ Antigone this spring.

gladiator look

And here’s how I’d go about it:
Gladiator Sandals
(these are in the mail on their way to me. I love that they don’t look completely flat. They may actually be comfortable. A novel idea for sandals).

Butter Wrap Dress
(We actually know the designer Nadia. She’s super talented. I love her stuff and have a few of her styles already. The satin wrap above is my favorite. I have it in cream).

Jennifer Behr Headband
(I love Jennifer Behr’s hair accessories. I wanted to get one for our wedding but wound up wearing natural flowers. They are so lovely though).

A love affair with wallpaper: My coffee table on Ferm Living’s Blog, and the wallpaper art of Dallas Shaw

I am like a wallpaper stalker….if it’s Ferm Living papers we’re talking about. I first posted about them here, then I made friends with Christiana, Ferm’s US rep. Next, we traded some prints of my work for some large and lovely samples….then I could not resist ordering a roll of this. I used the sample of it for this DIY project that Christiana posted on Ferm Living Clever Spaces Blog here.

The blog universe seems to be in alignment…with wallpaper in mind at least, ’cause the same day my project was posted on Ferm, Dallas Shaw contacted me about her work. Serendipitously enough I’ve been meaning to post about her for a while. I saw her on Bloesom a while back and she’s represented by my friend Jessica in the Shiny Squirrel Shop. I used to make cards for friends using wallpaper as a dress or pattern in a picture, Dallas uses it as her canvas or paper for prints and paintings (I love the object prints above). Her work is fashionable, bold, and graphic. I’m so glad she contacted me about it. I’m a fan!

Good Grief, Good Grace is Great: Lovely Vintage Clothing on Etsy

Good Grace

Armas Design recently posted about this wonderful little etsy shop, Good Grace, offering a keenly curated collection of vintage pieces that are beautifully photographed to boot.

I thought to myself, “oh I ought to take a peek…just for the sake of blogging.” Really though, in my mind I should know better. I should know I have no control. I should learn to cognitively restructure. Could you walk into a cute bake shop just to take a peek? Probably not. You’d go in, catch a whiff, and then 15 cookies later be in a sugar coma.

Same goes for me, and likewise with vintage shopping. For example, I’ve been thinking about riding boots for a while but decided to hold off since we just moved and need to pay rent and buy home decor goodies. Nonetheless, I passed an adorable thrift shop in my hood and came out with a pair of chocolate brown riding boots that are just darling. Oops. Anyway, the plaid secretary shirt in the center is mine. It was only $16…oh, the guilt.

Cool videos for your viewing pleasure: Indie boy bands making artsy videos…j’taime.

My husband is a book editor and his author played a small roll in this music video. You have to see. The video editing is superb (I think one of the guys in the band did it). I can’t believe how much footage they had to shoot and how intense it must have been to sync everything so perfectly with the music. Wow!

It reminds me of the home-grown team spirit….or rather band spirit of this one by Ok Go.

Speaking of boys doing cool videos, I’ve always loved this half-animated A-Ha video from the 80s:

Violet.com: Great site, great stuff, beautiful design. + DFM’s Blogger Yearbook Party. ++ Sex & the City Trailer!!!.

I would really like to have this stuff from Violet on my desk.
desk stuff

  1. Bubble in a box (would be great to hold paper clips and tape and stuff like that)
  2. Aviary desk set (maybe I’d write some letters and do snail mail)
  3. Universal filing system (might be better than my current system of stacks of paper and post-it notes)

**Also, if you are a blogger and are comfortable with what you looked like in high school, or at least have a sense of humor about it, submit your photos to my new pal Erin’s “Blogger Yearbook Party 2008“. Erin of Design For Mankind is just full of fun and brilliant ideas, like her E-zines. Anyway, mine will be in there. I thought using sun-in and lip-liner would be a good idea my sophomore year. As you’ll see from my photo, it was not.

**Cup Of Jo posted the Sex & The city Trailer which I’ve taken a blood oath to see with my best girls Jolie and Violet. We used to watch it together back in the day.
