Dave Wood’s bulldog clip type face and other text related posts

Dave Wood bulldog clip type face
via Johnson Banks thought for the week

I think this is fun. I can think of lots of real object ways to make a type face. Staplers might be a good start. Has anyone seen the Dior perfume ad in Vogue with ribbons as text? I’m too lazy to scan it right now. Sorry. Have you seen any unique typefaces lately?

Here are a some other text posts I rounded up from my archives:

  1. embroidered text messages
  2. when I launched my illustrative hand-lettering section online I posted this work
  3. Some of my surface patterns that incorporate text
  4. Tauba Auerbach
  5. Quote posters
  6. Ray Fenwick
  7. Doyald Young

One more thing, do you know about this blog: Oatmeal and Cinnamon? It’s still pretty new but I love everything posted.

Sub- Studio holiday!

Sub-studio

Anna and Sean of Sub-Studio are so extremely talented. They just sent over their Catalog, a brand new line of holiday notecards, mini gift cards, gift tags, and ornaments. All items are screen printed by Anna and Sean with metallic gold water-based ink and printed on 100% recycled/30% post-consumer stock from French Paper. The Catalog line features designs inspired by their favorite holiday items.

I personally adore their ornaments that are laser-cut from Technoply Beech Plywood in a raw wood finish, with engraved details displaying a darker layer beneath. Each ornament is hung by a festive red thread. They remind me of Andy Warhol’s ornaments.

I love Sub-Studios hinge cards the best. I think they’d be great for the holidays or everyday…

I can’t believe we’re in November already. Sheesh. I look forward to holiday parties. We usually have a few. My favorite holiday activity though is having brunch with some of my husband’s friends at this cool restaurant Freeman’s Alley and exchanging fun little gifts. I hope Sub-Studio helps you start prepping for your gift giving days….they’re coming up.

Built By Wendy and gingko leaves

built by wendy
Built by Wendy is a brand I love. I could not help but peruse her site for some sale items after having brunch with Lisa of one hot child in the city who donned a lovely Built By Wendy tee last weekend. I limited myself to just one sale purchase.

I adore the bomber jacket and would love to wear it with the pink dress (I’ve been coveting it for quite a while now) and black tights. That dress is so spring but with the jacket and tights would transition really well into fall/winter. Or so I think. There are a lot of great shirts and tunics on sale as well.

The one item I chose was the art teacher blouse (item 3 in my round-up above). I mean come on! It’s like it was made for me. I’m an art teacher after all. I love to belt shirts or wear shirts that come with a built in tie. I could not resist this one.

  1. Poplin bomber
  2. pink one strap dress
  3. art teacher blouse
  4. sailor tunic

Gingko trees in Prospect Heights
Dave and I had a beautiful weekend culminating in a long walk in Prospect Park with the pooch. I’m totally obsessed with the bright beautiful gingko trees. The leaves are falling down now and look so striking against the dark gray pavement. These photos were taken with Dave’s iphone so they don’t do the colors justice but I had to share.

New winter coat pattern

I can’t find my winter coat. I looked under the bed and in the closet. It’s gotta be somewhere? Are you looking for your coat? It’s getting chilly in Brooklyn. Here’s a new pattern I made of girls in coats. I’d like to have any of these. I don’t think red tights would look flattering on me though.

Weekly round up from Obama textiles to Lanvin colors

the big picture- photos of Obama on the campaign trail
The most moving and beautiful pictures of Obama, his family, and followers on the campaign trail from the Big Picture. Plus, Sub-studio posted about SayHear.org, a non-profit, non-partisan site that asked voters to leave an audio recording explaining why they were voting for (or now, why they voted) for a particular candidate. Listen to what other people had to say.

What an exciting week. I am thrilled that the waiting is over and we will now have an amazing leader in America again. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and enjoy this little round up. Here in Brooklyn the trees are in peak color, the sidewalks are scattered with stunningly bright gingko leaves as November settles in. Thanks for following Maquette dear readers. XO.
