Hanna Konola: Illustrator and printmaker

Hanna Konola

I’ve posted about Hanna Konola before because I love her work. Last post I featured her illustration, this time I wanted to show you my favorite of Hanna’s drawings and prints. Her work is so clean and peaceful, at the same time her colors are bold and cheerful. What a nice combination, don’t you think?

Free father’s day card for you to grab!

dad is the best 5X7

I just made this card for my dad and father in law so I thought I’d pop it up here on Maquette should any of you be blog reading this weekend. Feel free to grab it from my flickr, I changed the creative license so you can, and print for your papa (it’s 5X7) or send it to him digitally if he’s as diligent about checking email as you are.

Ok, enjoy! Have a lovely weekend.

Kindred Desktop Wallpaper Project

Holly and Ez on Kindred
Caitlin Shearer and Jessica Gonacha on Kindred
Holly Becker of Decor8 and Ez Pudewa of Creature Comforts are at it again. Not only do they offer daily inspiration on their incredible blogs but they’re collaborating on a project called Kindred (which launched over the winter) featuring free downloadable wallpapers from artists.

Here’s more info on why they’re doing this: “We appreciate the details, the pretty things others miss, art, design, and the art of living — something as mundane as weeding a flower bed feels so inviting and pleasurable to us. We’re sensitive, we want to help others, we’re girly girls… to us it’s about making the most of the often overlooked little things….No doubt many of you have your own kindred spirits online, those who encourage, share, motivate, comfort… Kindred is a mini celebration of such friendships formed inside the delicate and vast online web.”

I was honored to be one of the artists they chose to create a downloadable desktop wallpaper for people to download during the chilly months.

Check out the latest round of designs for Spring. I love all of them and think I’ll need a new one for each week. They have everything from dreamy pastel colored photos to bold illustrative paintings. Did I mention they’re free?! Check out some of my favorites above from these artists:

Misaki Kawai Paintings

Misaki Kawai
Words cannot express how in love I am with Misaki Kawai‘s paintings. Her colors, her playfulness and joy for the creative process is so evident in her work. I’m amazed by the economy of line and yet the intricacy of her expressive paintings. Above are my favorites that I’ve seen so far but I’m a fan so I can’t wait to see what she’ll come up with next.

Misaki cites some of her inspirations as “handmade dolls, textiles, and low quality manufactured objects”. This delightful video of her in her studio will give you more info.

Originally from Osaka Japan, Misaki now lives in Brooklyn and shows her work all over the world.

Check out Misaki’s link above to see more of her work including sculptures, zines, and drawings.
