Happy second year Maquette (free downloadable thank you card)

Thank you card for Maquette readers

Yesterday Maquette turned two! It’s been anything but terrible. I started this blog to share my work, other artist’s and designer’s work that I find inspiring, fashion/style plus other interesting tidbits of eye candy. In the process I’ve made some amazing blogger friends who make up a wonderful community plus real life friends whom I’ve met simply through shared passions. Maquette has become a really wonderful place for me. It motivates me both to find inspiration in the world and to produce work I’m excited to share with you my dear, loyal readers.

So today I share some posts from my archives and a free downloadable card for you (just click on the card above to go to my flickr, then download at original size). I want to thank you so much for joining me here each day. I really love this place and appreciate your readership and support!

Please enjoy the card yourself or feel free to download it and send it to someone who has supported you or made you happy in some way! (It’s so hot here in Brooklyn, I thought I’d make a super summery card for you).

Moop bags (new maquette sponsor!!!)

Moop bags (new Maquette Sponsor)

I’m so excited about Moop, a fabulous (husband and wife) handmade bag company. I learned about them during a discussion I had with Joanna of a Cup of Jo about diaper bags that don’t look like diaper bags. We’ll be the ones carrying it around, not Henry the baby. My husband and I wanted a totally unisex one so that we could take turns using it.

I checked out Joanna’s tip and was thrilled to discover the perfect unisex bag that could be used as a diaper bag, weekender, city chic tote, you name it. We got the Porter in slightly brushed gun-metal gray canvas (super soft), lined in ultra durable and water-resistant gray cordura (there are numerous compartments inside for me to stick my wallet, phone, water bottle, and baby stuff. I loved the look of it and when it arrived I was blown away by the craftsmanship and attention to detail. It’s now battle-tested as we took it on errands over the weekend. Here I am 30 weeks preggers with the Porter. You can get lots of different Moop bag styles in their shop.

I’m thrilled to welcome Moop as Maquette’s sponsor! Here’s some info about Wendy and her husband Jeremy, both of whom have turned Moop into a full-time booming indie business:  “It’s just the two of us that do everything (from designing and sewing each bag, all the way through, to each aspect of running the business).  Even as we grow, we are committed to the idea of continuing to make each bag in our studio, start to finish—we have decided that it is important to us to take on the challenge of keeping the production process local and central to what we do (and are excited about the challenge of figuring out how to expand this to accommodate our growth.)”

Thanks so much Wendy and Jeremy, I’m a big Moop fan and am so excited to feature you here on Maquette.

p.s I have my eye on the Market bag for myself!!

Nerd Boyfriend

Nerd Boyfriend

I know I said “farewell” for the weekend yesterday but I’ve been meaning to share this for a while and could no longer resist. I’ve become a big fan of Nerd Boyfriend blog. They feature interesting men from musicians like Pete Townsend, Bob Dyan, Mick Jagger, to actors, to directors, to scientists….basically smart men with brains bigger than brawn.

Here’s my nerd boyfriend husband. Ok now have a nice weekend for real!

The end of summer is nearing. I’m not ready. I love teaching art to brilliant little kids and will be again in the fall. However, I have so been enjoying doing my own work plus doing freelance illustration and surface pattern design. The year is going to bring about so many changes. The baby is coming in October! There are so many things I want to accomplish before then but I will also need to learn how to juggle career(s) with mom-hood. Should be a very interesting learning experience. I am getting organized myself starting with a sale of lots of original artwork up on etsy. Why hold on to it!? It makes me happy to think that it will be on some one’s wall somewhere, hopefully making them smile. So far some of my favorite pieces have been sold!

Big thanks to these fabulous bloggers for posting about the original art sale on etsy:
