For kids & adults alike: Fabulous wooden items designed for children but for adults to love

Wooden items for kids-adults
Just because I have a little one on the way doesn’t mean that Maquette’s going to turn into a mommy blog. However, I’m more tuned in to kid and baby design items so  I can’t resist showing you some things that cross over into the adult realm nicely. For example I love all of these wooden items and with or without baby could see a place for them in my home. How about you? Have you ever picked up something that was designed for a kid just for yourself? Or for your kid but secretly for you too?

  1. Alexander Girard Alphabet blocks- SF Moma

  4. Blank Matryoshka (paint it yourself)- Romp

Cardboard horse stampede by Ann Wood

Ann Wood's Cardboard Stampede on Maquette

I love Ann Wood’s work. It’s magical. This cardboard stampede is stunning. I would love each and every one of those delicately made horses and love to have them run along my wall.

Want to learn how to make one for yourself from Ann? Here’s her cardboard horse stampede how-to.

Once I posted about Ann’s Magical birds and ship wrecks.

I hope you all had a lovely weekend. Here in Brooklyn it was wickedly hot but we managed to see a film called Still Walking and attend a q&a with the director, go to dinner at a lovely Mexican restaurant with friends, and go out to dinner with different friends for Cuban food. During the Cuban feast we had to huddle under the outdoor table umbrella because of the down pour. We got a little soaked but managed to go out for frozen yogurt after. It was refreshing.

Dave’s friends got him the “dad” camera he wanted for the baby so he tried it out on me for 31 weeks pregnant photos outside our apartment. He also snapped some silhouette photos inside. The camera is great. Can’t wait to use it on Henry when he joins us.

Fall clog/boot roundup

fall shoe round-up1

fall clog & boot round-up

It’s hard to resist shoes, especially for autumn. I am really in the mood for some of these clogs. My favorite pair of boots (the fourth image) is at the repair shop as I wore them to bits last year. They’re getting re-soled. I still love them but have my eyes on these! Tell me which you like best? What do you have your eye on for fall?

  1. Swedish Hasbeens Covered Super High (brown ones on sale for $99 at Free People), I love them in blue also. I just found the bordeaux slip-on super high on Amazon for $117 (free shipping). I think I’m going to get them? I don’t like very high heels. These are a little over 3″ but with the 1″ platform will feel like 2.5″ probably.
  2. Sven (hand crafted covered clog)
  3. Rachel Comey Note (flat ankle boots)
  4. Marc Jacobs (Plaque Western ankle boot stacked heel) (craaaaazzy expensive but nice to drool over)
  5. Marc Jacobs (Plaque Western stacked heel) (also craaaaazzy expensive but nice to drool over)

2K by Gingham t-shirts: Samantha Hahn

2K by Gingham

I’m excited to tell you that 2K by Gingham just updated their site with my t-shirt designs. You can pick them up directly online or at a number of shops around the world. Here’s the list. At the bottom of the list are the online shops, find one near you (My Wardrobe in the UK is a nice one). Telegraph UK featured the astronauts tee in their fashion news! Yay.

I took a photo of my husband in the black astronaut tee, my favorite for the boys. It’s a shimmery silver silkscreen on the softest cotton. Love it! As for the girl’s I wear them all and even gave samples to my girlfriends. Gotta get them to pose for photos to add to my website. It’s great to use friends as models! Anyway, hope you like the tees! XO.

Ginko Papers: Beautiful stationery and notebooks

Ginko papers

I love the beautiful prints available on cards and other items at Gingko papers. I kind of want to wallpaper a room with one of them.

As a surface pattern designer I find them inspiring. My designs are so busy and dizzying. I should really do some simple, elegant ones like these.
