Rainy day chic: Get my intern Alex’s look

intern Alex

intern Alex's outfit

My adorable and chic intern Alex had a friend snap a shot of her rainy day chic get-up. Here’s what Alex says about her look:

” It’s been pouring here for several days here in Southampton, NY. Since it was my day off from working at the gallery, I decided to venture outside with a girlfriend anyways. Watching the rain, we ordered crepes and cappuccinos, which instantly brought me back to memories of being in Paris. “

Luckily Alex has supplied us with details of how to snag her look. I love a good trench:

  2. Abstract scarf by Tilo
  3. Nyx belt by Elegantly waisted
  4. Javi cut-out wedge sandals by Sam Edelman

Setting up nest and studio

We moved into our new apartment! I was so excited to finally get our things into the new space. Sure we will miss our Brooklyn hood but Manhattan is not half bad, I mean the Metropolitan Museum of art, Central park and authentic Ramen restaurants on the lower Eastside are nothing to scoff at.

I put a lot of elbow grease into the place before we arrived, painting all summer. I also reached out to a handful of sponsors who make and sell products I covet (see sidebar). Now that we are moved in there’s a lot to do. Figuring out the most efficient way to set up nest, studio and toddler lair are all on the agenda. I will be sharing lots of posts in the coming weeks with photos of the space as it comes together and sponsor features, showcasing the great furniture, lighting and products we’re using to decorate as well as some DIY projects. The finished apartment will be shot by the talented photographer, Tara Donne.

Before I get into the aesthetics I’ll share a little history of the place we live. This apartment originally belonged to my husband’s grandparents who moved in, in the 60’s. Shortly after they got married, Dave’s parents moved in and raised Dave and his sister in the building to be near their grandparents. When nana and baba passed away, Dave’s sister moved in then out and now we’re here. It’s a full circle as our toddler Henry (the namesake of Dave’s grandfather) will be a fourth generation resident.

We’re happy to be in the city we grew up in, the building Dave grew up in and this booming epicenter of life, art and culture that is New York city. I hope you will join me on my little foray into decorating the place we call home and studio.

Was this the face that launch’d a thousand ships
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium?
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.

– Christopher Marlowe, on Helen of Troy in Doctor Faustus

In her first solo exhibition, illustrator Samantha Hahn brings forth the massive stores of her creative mind and lets her works overflow onto the walls of gallery hanahou. From collections of her daily drawings, to sketches of yearned-for items from the Brooklyn Flea Market, blogger portraits, and visual tributes of great women of literature, including incarnations of Helen of Troy, this show is an ode to all things bright, beautiful, and inspiring. On September 22nd, we invite you to take a glimpse into the ever-growing, color-saturated world of Samantha Hahn’s works, that she has been happily creating over the past year.

The exhibition will be comprised of works ranging from sketches on scraps of notebook paper to larger, framed pieces, all crowding the walls of gallery hanahou for your visual pleasure.

Bicycle notecards for Galison

thanks a bunch galison_me

During this overwhelming summer (lost my dad, moved-today, freelance projects and solo show preparation) I have had such an outpouring of support and condolences from people I know and love as well as very sweet well wishers/ blog readers. I can’t possibly thank each and every one of you enough.

I really should sit down one of these days and jot some notes on these little watercolor cards I made for Galison (I love working with Galison. Everyone there is super creative and nice).
